- Name origin (IAU)
- The Arabic term المعز (al-maʽaz) can refer to the plural "goats" but has also been interpreted as a He-Goat (contrasting Capella, the She-Goat). Allen (1899, 90) cites Hyde's 1665 translation of Ulugh Beg with this term for a group of stars (asterism or sub-constellation) in Auriga.
